Here's an idea of what to expect: 1. You will get dirty, tired, hot, and sweaty, and sometimes cold and wet. If you cannot tolerate these conditions for short periods of time, do not apply for this job. 2. You will be expected to show up on your scheduled days ready to work, on time, and if you don't, you will be asked to find another job. 3. Holiday work is optional, but you will be required to work regular weekends, equally sharing with your co-workers. This is usually about six weekends for the whole semester. Your duties on those days will require you to arrive at the greenhouses around 9:00am both on Saturday and on Sunday and work for approximately 2 hours per day, sometimes as much as 4 hours per day. Weekend work is not optional, it is required. If you cannot work weekends, do not apply for this job. 5. You will learn a lot about the use and care of lawn maintenance equipment. If you do not like to mow, pull weeds, dig, or spray, do not apply for this job. 6. Our team usually consists of only 6 students and 1 supervisor. Our students quickly learn that this small crew size sometimes causes a heavy work load per student during busy times. At other times, students may be challenged to stay busy. 7. You will be a part of a great team of people who take pride in their accomplishments and enjoy working towards the common goal of making the Horticulture Gardens and Greenhouses the best area of campus. |
