The Chemistry Lab Supervisor is an integral member of the three-person LifeWorks leadership team in the chemistry department. This leadership team includes the staff supervisor, the Chemistry Lab Director, and the Chemistry Lab Supervisor, and this team is responsible for mentoring, training, and selecting team members and Chemistry Lab Team Leaders. The focus of the Chemistry Lab Supervisor’s duties is to oversee operations for all teams in the chemistry department. They will establish a system to ensure that work is completed in a timely and satisfactory manner. They are the direct supervisor of the Chemistry Lab Team Leaders and indirectly for all other team members. They serve as the liaison between the teams and the staff supervisor and faculty. The supervisor will conduct mid-semester meetings for each worker they directly supervise. They will conduct interviews when relevant and will be instrumental in hiring their replacement when the time comes. The lab supervisor is automatically the Lab Safety Officer (LSO).
