Department Summary: Historic Preservation Assistants will join the staff of Oak Hill & The Martha Berry Museum, which tells the story of Martha Berry and Berry College through the preservation and touring of the historic structures on the Oak Hill Estate and Berry College’s Main and Mountain Campuses. Oak Hill was the childhood home of Martha Berry and later became her adult residence. The Martha Berry Museum is on the Oak Hill Estate and serves as a place to further tell the story of the Berry Schools. Position Summary: The Historic Preservation Assistant is an entry level position that focuses on the upkeep of spaces of historical significance across Berry’s campus. This role serves as an introduction to cultural heritage fields and helps in developing transferable skills such as professionalism/work ethic and communication.
Essential Functions: - Maintain historical structures and associated outdoor signage through weekly housekeeping and preventative conservation techniques. - Report changes or issues with historical structures and outdoor signage to the Historic Preservation Liaison. - Manage responsibilities associated with cleaning supply inventories. - Provide basic context for historical structures to any guests that visit spaces during shifts.
