Job Description

The Summer Recreation Assistant role is within the Berry College Department of Recreation which includes the teams of Fitness, Intramurals, Nutrition, BOLD, Outdoor Rec, Risk Management, and Marketing & Communication. This position’s primary duties are split between staffing and maintenance of the Cage Center Fitness Floor during open hours and BOLD programming/Special Projects. Fitness Maintenance responsibilities primarily include supervision of the Fitness Floor and connected areas (Group Fitness Classrooms, MAC Gym, Racquetball courts), any gear/equipment checkout through the Cage Center & daily and routine cleaning of the exercise equipment itself. Special Projects work extends outside of the Fitness space & may include general cleaning/inventory of existing Recreation equipment, maintenance of Recreation indoor and outdoor spaces, and other assorted tasks as assigned – with priority being given to BOLD programming needs over Special Projects tasks throughout the work week. All staff will complete approximately 40 hours of training upon hiring, both to manage the Fitness Area and to uphold risk management and group supervision standards required to execute BOLD programming.  

This position may also support Outdoor Recreation Gear & Campsite Checkout on an as-needed basis. This role may be tasked with assisting in other Student Affairs programming outside of Recreation – such as helping to set-up/take-down, staff, or otherwise facilitate OSI events where applicable. 

*Prior to hire, candidates will participate in an interview process to outline their expectations related to Summer availability based on priority for scholarship hour maintenance/consideration and other on- or off-campus internship or employment positions. Applicants unable to provide 25hrs/week on average may not be eligible for hire. 

Job Requirements

 Candidates will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, with willingness to consistently work alongside other Recreation team members throughout the summer months to complete continued supervision of the Cage Center Fitness Area and required programming within the Department and across Student Affairs. Maintain First Aid/CPR/AED certification upon hire.
