Job Description

Student Worker Opportunity: Standardized Patient for PA Student Training

We invite you to apply for a unique and engaging student worker position supporting Physician Assistant (PA) students during their clinical skills testing. This is a great opportunity for students who enjoy acting, working with others, and being part of medical education.

In this role, you will serve as a Standardized Patient—a trained individual who “portrays” a patient during student testing sessions (OSCEs). PA faculty will provide training, scripts, and guidance to help you succeed in the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a standardized patient during PA student skills exams using a provided script
  • Memorize and portray patient scenarios in a consistent and professional manner
  • Assist faculty with preparing testing materials and folders (scripts, grading rubrics, exam findings, diagnostic results)
  • Maintain strict confidentiality, as this is a formal testing environment
Job Requirements

Important Availability Requirement

This position requires availability on testing days:

  • Mondays from 12:30 PM – 5:00 PM
  • Testing occurs twice per semester, and attendance during these times is required.

Outside of testing days, work hours are flexible and can be arranged during the week for preparation, script memorization, and assisting with materials.

Position Requirements

  • Comfortable with acting and memorizing scripts
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Comfortable participating in physical exam simulations while wearing athletic attire (e.g., athletic shorts and sports bra)
  • Professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality

Note: No genital examinations are performed, and standardized patients are not required to fully undress.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must not plan to apply to the PA program in the future.

If you are interested in a fun, interactive role that supports PA student learning and simulation-based education, we encourage you to apply!
