Manages the student editorial team and contributes to high-level writing projects by displaying exceptional editorial judgment and leadership ability. Responsibilies: • Directly supervise student employees, providing feedback and coaching • Provide ongoing training and professional development guidance to student team members • Ensure compliance with LifeWorks expectations – trainings, timesheet submissions, etc. • Lead weekly team communications to review progress and assign tasks • Serve as primary liaison between student team and professional staff for editorial planning • Establish and manage schedule for student team members • Responsible for overall workflow and deadlines for class notes section • Ensure proper delegation and redistribution of tasks when delays occur or work level increases significantly • Troubleshoot editorial problems or questions identified by the student team and work with Editor to resolve them • Oversee communication with alumni for approval of the edited notes, including helping with emailing and tracking/managing responses, enlisting or providing additional help as needed • Provide final fact-checking of alumni obituaries and donor lists received from Advancement Services and ensure that the lists are formatted correctly for publication • Ensures the successful cataloging of alumni highlighted in each issue in the Alumni Index and the updating of all data tracking logs for each issue • Opportunities for advanced news or feature writing may also be available depending on skill- and interest-level |
