Quality Engineering Internship

 

Company: OTR Wheel Engineering, Inc. is a privately held corporation in Rome, Georgia, delivering specialized off-the road tires, wheels, mounted tire and wheel assemblies, and rubber tracks to original equipment manufacturers, resellers, wholesale distributors, and aftermarket customers.

 

OTR Wheel Engineering is seeking a Quality Engineering Intern to support the Quality Department in driving continuous improvement across our manufacturing and supplier network. This position offers hands-on exposure to real-world quality systems, product validation, and manufacturing processes

 

 

Responsibilities:

• Assist the Quality team with root cause investigations and corrective actions using structured problem-solving tools such as 8D, Fishbone, and 5-Why analysis.

• Support quality data collection and analysis related to product defects, scrap trends, warranty returns, and supplier performance.

• Assist with inspection planning and quality documentation, including control plans, inspection procedures, and work instructions.

• Participate in process improvement initiatives focused on reducing defects, improving process capability, and enhancing overall product quality.

• Help maintain documentation related to the company’s Quality Management System (QMS) in alignment with ISO 9001 standards.

• Support activities related to PPAP (Production Part Approval Process), APQP, and product validation where applicable.

• Assist with the preparation of quality performance reports and dashboards used by leadership to track key performance indicators (KPIs).

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain to support quality improvement initiatives.

• Assist in the documentation and follow-up of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

• Support special projects related to continuous improvement, defect reduction, and process optimization.

• Perform additional duties and special assignments as directed by the Quality Manager.

Education: Currently enrolled in college/university, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields:

• Mechanical Engineering
• Industrial Engineering
• Manufacturing Engineering
• Quality Engineering
• Engineering Technology
• Supply Chain or related technical discipline

• Data Science

 

 

Preferred Experience:

·      Strong interest in manufacturing quality systems and process improvement

·      Understanding or exposure to ISO 9001 quality systems

·      Familiarity with basic quality tools such as:

o   Pareto analysis

o   Root cause analysis

o   Process flow diagrams

o   Control plans

·      Good organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively

·      Ability to organize files and effectively retrieve data

·      Detail oriented with strong interpersonal skills

·      Problem Solving/Analysis

·      Team player/works well as a member of a group

·      Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

 

Work Environment: This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
