General Position Description:

The Learning & Development Assistant (NeighborLife) supports the NeighborLife Mentors in planning and facilitating engaging learning experiences for Neighbors at Amber Grace Community. Learning & Development Assistants encourage curiosity, foster independence, adapt learning experiences to individual abilities, and build meaningful relationships that help Neighbors grow in confidence, responsibility, and purpose.

 

Learning & Development Assistants participate in a tiered leadership pathway designed to develop their skills, responsibility, and leadership over time. Returning assistants take on increased ownership, mentor newer assistants, and help facilitate NeighborLife programming.

 

Lead Learning & Development Assistant (Advanced/Leadership Role)

For Learning & Development Assistants demonstrating strong leadership, initiative, and relational depth

Expanded Responsibilities:

  • Co-lead NeighborLife programming alongside Mentors.
  • Mentor and support Apprentice and Learning & Development Assistants.
  • Assist with curriculum planning, lesson development, and creative learning experiences.
  • Serve as point person during designated NeighborLife blocks when Mentors are in one-on-one sessions.
  • Provide informal leadership, encouragement, and spiritual support within the Learning & Development Assistant team.

Focus: Leadership, co-ownership, and program excellence

Job Requirements:

  • Must be a sophomore or higher to apply (email ci@berry.edu to inquire about volunteer opportunities for freshmen)
  • Assist Mentors during workshops and NeighborLife programming.
  • Foster a Christ-like, safe, respectful, and inclusive environment
  • Maintain open communication with all team members and the Director of Programming
  • Participate in team meetings and training, as needed

 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Experience working with individuals with IDD (or strong interest and willingness to learn)
  • Passion for education, inclusion, and lifelong learning.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adapt learning experiences for individuals with varying abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to represent Amber Grace in a Christ-like, professional manner
  • Shows respect, care and dignity in working with Neighbors
  • Respects confidentiality of Neighbors
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull 25 pounds

 

 

Must have work availability between the hours of 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1:30-5:00 p.m., Monday- Friday

All employees are required to complete a background check and fingerprinting (employer paid) prior to hire.

A letter of reference from a Berry professor or work supervisor will also be required prior to an official offer of hire.
