Job Description

Multiple research projects are currently underway in the laboratory. Students should be comfortable performing standard molecular biology techniques, including, but not limited to, RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, PCR, RT-PCR, and related methodologies.

Students who have completed BIO 111 and BIO 300 are especially encouraged to apply and will receive first consideration.

These projects require a high degree of responsibility and independence. The preferred candidate will be expected to work with minimal direct supervision and may be asked to work independently or collaborate with more junior undergraduate researchers to complete project objectives. Qualified students may be granted laboratory access as appropriate and in accordance with departmental policies.

Regular meetings with Prof. Sykes will provide guidance, facilitate project progress, and help ensure successful completion of research goals.

Job Requirements
  • Completion of BIO 111 and BIO 300
  • Familiarity with basic molecular biology techniques
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a research team
  • Commitment to maintaining accurate laboratory records and research standards
